abortion pill q&a

answering questions about at-home or DIY abortions and more

WHAT IS THE ABORTION PILL PROCESS?

The abortion pill process typically involves taking two different abortion-inducing drugs over one to two days to end an early pregnancy. The first drug cuts of progesterone, a hormone that allows the fetus to develop. The second causes the uterus to contract and expel the pregnancy at home. Follow-up is important to confirm the process is complete, fetal remains have been properly disposed of, and to address any complications.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?

Common side effects can include cramping, contractions, bleeding, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, chills, and fatigue. Some people experience heavier bleeding than a typical period, which can last several days or longer. Serious complications like infection, sepsis, an overgrowth of the uterine lining, and ongoing bleeding requiring surgery are possible and require medical attention. Please call 911 immediately if you are experiencing any of these.

WHO IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE ABORTION PILL?

The abortion pill should not be taken if a person is over 10 weeks pregnant, has an ectopic pregnancy, has certain medical conditions, or takes specific medications that could cause complications. An ultrasound and medical history review are important to determine eligibility and protect your health. We provide this at no cost to you.

IS IT SAFE TO FORCE A MISCARRIAGE AT HOME?

Forcing a miscarriage at home without medical supervision is not safe and can be dangerous. Methods found online or shared anecdotally -such as herbs, supplements, physical trauma, or unverified medications - can lead to severe bleeding, infection, organ damage, infertility, or even life-threatening complications.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW BEFORE AN ABORTION?

Before an abortion, you should know:

  • The location and type of pregnancy

  • How far along you are

  • Rh factor (a Rhogam shot could be needed)

  • If the pregnancy is viable (able to continue)

  • An IUD in place must be removed

  • STD testing is recommended to reduce the risk of infection

CAN THE ABORTION PILL BE REVERSED?

Some women start the process and experience immediate regret. The abortion pill reversal process involves a prescription for progesterone to counteract the first abortion drug. For a successful reversal, it's crucial to start the protocol within 24 hours of taking the first pill. This is your choice. Call 1-877-558-0333 to get help right away.
